Swasey Mountain Biking is some of the best MTB in Redding CA

Swasey mountain biking is fantastic! The area is also named Swasey Recreation Area, Swasey Rec Area for short

No doubt. There are numerous MTB trails to choose from and for any level rider. Over the years the area has

changed for the better, new trails added. Trails like “Princess Ditch”, “Cosmos Way” and “Mule Mountain Summit” which has some gorgeous views so be sure to get some pictures.

Swasey Recreation Area has received some notoriety with the new mile-long flow trail named the “Enticer”. The “Snail trail” was also revamped too, I call it “Berm City”. Great trail to work on your turns.

Some MTB events have been held here too, Blazing Saddle, Mule Mountain and a few company demo days. This area you can loop for days. How many times can you ride around?

You can also drop into Whiskeytown Recreation Area from Swasey Rec Area at the top of the “Escalator”. 5 trail intersection along with a picnic bench to have lunch at and rest. Swasey mountain biking has only gotten better.

I remember an MTB ride I did years ago before Swasey Recreation Area existed and I rode up “Mule Mountain Pass” so I could ride the “Terminator” trail down. Very fun, chunky and Black Diamond so stay on your toes.

Swasey mountain biking has only gotten better and has drawn more attention from other MTB riders from out of town. Right now Swasey Rec Area is ranked #65 best trail in California. Another year or so and the area will rank top 50.

Early 2017, my boy and I were riding Wintu trail and I wanted to see how the new addition of the “Enticer” flow trail was going. Immediately, we saw a backhoe and it was obvious that someone was working on the trail ahead. As I hiked the bike up the trail I noticed how very progressive this trail is. Meaning that you can work yourself up to the big stuff. Later, I plan is to make a series of videos to show my progression at 48 years of age. But for now, you can see me hit the BIG gap down at the bottom of the “Enticer” on Pink Bike.

I think that in mid-October that year I finally got the balls to hit that and I have only hit that with my DH MTB, 2005 Specialized Big Hit with 24in/26in wheel combo. That thing is a pig to pedal but a BLAST to ride DH.

My other MTB is a 2003 Santa Cruz Chameleon, my primary XC and I have ridden down the “Enticer” and hit a few features but not all the ones I have hit with my MTB DH. Riding the hardtail is so much faster than the DH. Scary fast and I have paid the price a few times. BADLY.

Both crashes happened on the hardtail and I was clipped in too. SPDs off, flats on. Still recovering though and am unable to really go for a ride due to needing a new set of Forks or really just get a new MTB, I am due.

Whatever MTB I ride next, Swasey Recreation Area will remain one of the best places to ride MTB for all levels of MTB riders. If you ever want to ride, hit me up. DM me on Instagram @mtbcrankaddict. Let’s enjoy some Swasey mountain biking together and get some video for my YouTube channel “MTB Crank Addict”. Check it out, like, give it a thumbs up, subscribe, please.
