“French Fry” trail, be sure to add a little Special Sauce

French fry trail Redding CA is a fantastic addition to the trail system. Just in the Redding CA area, we are fortunate to have 215 miles of singletrack. The question is, where do you want to MTB ride?

I took some time off the MTB after a crash in 2007. I broke my left collarbone which required surgery. It was a real pain. I was more bummed about missing my massage/chiropractor appointment I will have to miss.

Anyways, it would only be a matter of time before I started to ride again. I love my MTB. Time to go to the bike shop, CG.

Still the same staff and owner, Gary Larson. As I always do, I talked everybody’s hear off and catching up with everyone. A new trail was mentioned, the French Fry trail, and that I should go check it out. How can I resist? The

dangling carrot. LOL.

I have only ridden the French Fry trail one way (NE) a handful of times, just don’t see any reason why, other than the experience, I would want to ride the opposite direction. Depends on the situation I guess.

You would typically start at the Middle Creek dump French Fry TH. You can’t miss it, look to your left. Start pedaling up for 15 min or so, be sure to get some pictures of the great views of Redding CA and then the fun begins. The 1st half before the power lines is really flowy singletrack, with a few little hits, nothing big. One thing’s for sure, I guarantee, you’ll have a great time. With the right lighting or time of day you can get some great video.

I have some video that I need to put together of me and Joe “The Animal” riding MTB, shredding the French Fry trail and we having a blast. Took some B roll too, doing some MTB Yoga. Ha ha. It’s funny and I think you’ll like it.

The 2nd half of the trail gets more technical and chunky. You ride above the creek what’s basically a rock shelf. Some more singletrack for another 3 miles. When you get to the gravel road make a left and hit the singletrack follow that out to Iron Mountain road. Go left and then a quick right on to Keswick Dam. Take that all the way to the Sacramento Rail trail.

My name is Crazy Chris (Chris Tuttle) and I love to ride my MTB, ask anyone who knows me. If you are from out of town and you’re up for a ride, I would be happy to show you around the area. DM on Instagram @ mtbcrankaddict

The point of this post is to express my joy the French Fry trail gives me. It’s not difficult by any means just a whole lot of fun for any MTB rider.

At the time of me writing this post there is a HUGE FIRE from hell, name the Carr Fire and has devastated the Redding CA area. I believe that the French Fry trail has been burned. Too soon to tell. I’ll give it a week or so to die down so that I can do a little pedal to get a perspective.
